We served more clients than we have in previous years, continuing our work to reduce food insecurity in Boulder.
2017 marked the launch of our Pop-Up Pantries. The Pop-Ups started as a pilot program in January, and developed into a full-fledged operation, where our volunteers provide food on a weekly basis to individuals who otherwise would not be able to come into the Pantry. The Pop-Up pantries are an innovative way for us to expand our reach to those in need in our community who have barriers to accessing our brick and mortar location but need food assistance. Thanks to our regular partners- CU Boulder and Boulder Housing Partners-for providing us space to serve individuals.
This was also the first year we began tracking how much food we redistribute to support other agencies, such as New Horizon Preschool, or the Nederland Pantry. By working with partners such as these, we support the reduction of food waste and support other agencies supplying food aid to those in need. This practice, combined with a new practice of weighing all inventory on-site at the end of the year has helped us better track the food we distribute.
We have begun regularly distributing personal hygiene items to both our Clients with Kitchens and our Clients without Kitchens to provide items which are not otherwise covered under SNAP (aka food stamps.) We are always seeking donations of hot items such as razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene products.
We look forward to a productive 2018 where we plan to continue our Pop-Ups, feed more individuals in our community who are facing food insecurity, and continue to work with our partners to serve Boulder better.
With a heart full of HOPE,
